As a lurker who looks for innovative freeware here and have found several
useful programs for my own use, things here lately seem kinda sparse.

Seems like threads go on and on and on doing nothing but flaming someone who
has irritated someone else. Hasn't the name "alt.comp.freeware" been
compromised into "I hate you and all you stand for"?

I know I'm bad for pointing this out and the flames will start but please
don't run it into 50 entries of complaints. What good will it do?

It seems to me that the number of requests for programs is down - and
that in turn means we are not hearing about as many programs.

IMO it's just the midsummer doldrums . . .

Glenn I'm a lurker also, I look at the flame wars as better entertainment
than cable TV has to offer. This group has offered me tons of real value, I
truly appreciate the time and efforts of those who contribute to this groups
cause. Families argue and thats my view of the arguments.

But...But... I done the dishes and laundry, can'tcha get someone else to
take out the trash?

<flame on>Are you mad? :-) <flame off>
It's absolutely freeeeeezing down here ATM... "Your next weather update
will be brought to you directly from the Antarctica." Actually, some
decent flames would be welcome in these icy depths.

Isn't this a wonderful medium that we can talk to each other (civilly) all
over the world? The world is truly shrinking, maybe someday we won't have
to fight wars. Wouldn't that be nice? OT but I just had to slip that in.
;)

Same here. I love those that are innovative.

I think so, too. For example, besides seeing less requests,
I realized that I myself have been quite busy with other
things during the summer, hard to get time to actually go
searching on the web for new and fun author's site (I enjoy
doing that a lot, just as a hobby). And then, perhaps we
really also got that "out of school" crowd who has nothing to
do besides trolling and framing during the summer.

Not only that, I regularly monitor various freeware sites for
"what's is new", I realized that the releases of freeware
could be "seasonal" too. Sometimes just a lot coming out
within a month or a week, sometimes, nothing - just updates.
Summer, if my memory serves, for some reason, does not seems
to be a high season for freeware releases (one would guess the
oposite, since you think a lot of authors could be free from
their full time work during summer). Yet, new stuff tends to
come before christmas (christmas gifts??) - it would be really
interesting to see if someone operating a freeware site can
offer some statistics regarding this.

Well,.... the summer is ending, and school is starting again
:)
