new floppy drive

I am running windows XP/HE & I have a new pc which had no floppy drive.
I have fitted a new drive but windows does not acknowledge it and I am told by a friend that I need to enable it in the BIOS.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?
 
Turn off the computer>turn it on a tap the "delete" key repeatedly before
windows starts. If you have done this properly you should now be in the
bios of the motherboard. Depending on manufactuer you need to navigate to
the section that shows your drives. Check to see if floppy is on or off.
Make changes as necessary then exit and save the settings. Only make one
change at a time because changing several items could cause problems if you
don't know what you have changed. Good Luck!
