New Firewire Drive not Mounting

I'm running XP Pro and I have multiple firewire ports
that all seem to be active, but when I plug in a
functional (it works on a Mac I have when formatted to)
firewire drive it comes up as A: Of course it doesn't
work. Any idea why? XP apparently thinks this drive is
a floppy! If I disable the floppy contoller then the
firewire drive is nowhere to be found. Please help!
Could it be A BIOS issue? Can I force it to be a
different drive letter?

Hi, Brian!
Most likely your drive needs to be formatted by XP. This might imply
mounting it as internal slave drive temporarily.

Thanks for your help!!! I saw your other posts to others
with similar problems...does this fix do it? I already
have a slave connected currently. If I just swap it with
the firewire's drive, format the firewire's drive and
swap them back will I have any problems with my original
slave? This system is very solid and is for work
applications. I'd hate to mess with it over a stupid
firewire drive that won't mount properly. Could I just
swap it with my CD-RW or DVD or does it need to be
swapped with the slave?

Hi, Brian!
Provided there are no system files on your internal slave drive
(systems are normally installed on master drives), here are the steps:
1) Unplug your PC. Put both your hands on the metal frame to get rid of
potential static electricity.
2) Take the firewire HD out of its casing.
3) Make sure that the firewire HD jumpers are set to "slave".
4) Disconnect the internal slave HD (be careful how you handle the
connectors, they are not always as sturdy as they might look).
5) Connect the firewire HD instead.
6) Switch the power on, launch Windows XP, partition and format the
firewire HD from the Windows XP GUI.
7) Power your PC down and unplug.
8) Disconnect the firewire HD, set its jumpers back to "master", then
put it back inside its external casing.
9) Reconnect your internal slave HD.
10) Switch the power on, launch Windows XP.
11) Plug your external HD in (FireWire connector). It should normally
be recognized by XP. At least this is what happened on my system.

Note: I have no experience of Mac OSes but I doubt that your FireWire
HD could work on both a Mac and a Windows PC simultaneously.
You'll have to choose which system you want to plug your FireWire HD
into.
