New Fax Machine grabs XP Faxes I send out

I just got a new Brother 885MC to replace older Brother fax machine.

Yesterday I could Fax from XP Fax Console just fine all day long!
We have 4 cpu's on a network with DSL & "filters" - all was well yesterday!
I took the jacks out of old machine & placed them in exact same slots in new
machine. We are receiving faxes fine, we are manually sending faxes fine.
One cpu set up to receive faxes direct to monitor - not print-out

NOW - every Fax i send out from my computer goes to my OWN new Brother fax
machine. How is that possible?

Simple. The Brother is connected to the same phone line as your PC's modem,
it "hears" the CNG tones your PC's Fax modem sends, and it responds
accordingly, it receives the fax. I'm surprised your old Fax machine didn't
respond the same way. A simple solution is to use a different phone line
for the Brother.

1. I must keep the Brother Fax on the same phone line as it was before.
That line is "published for our business.

2. The line I always dial out on was set -up by my business phone system
company. So I have a phone jack for my CPU.

Regardless - why would any of this change simply plugging in a new Brother
Fax in another room on the exact same cords??
 
I'm going to guess the new Brother Fax machine looks at it's phone jack
differently. Brother will probably have to consulted for the exact reason,
however, I suspect it has to do with the phone wiring (which isn't one of my
strong suits). An RJ11 phone jack has 4 wires which can act as two phone
lines (2 wires per line). My experience has been that some modems only look
at two of the wires, the pair that is supposed to be primary, while others
look at all 4 wires.

I don't know if this explains it or not; like I said, telephone wiring is
not what I do or have much experience with. The good folks at Brother would
bee in a much batter position to answer the question.
