I would like to know how to open two windows (C Drive)
and new G Drive. So I can transfer files and programs
from old C Drive to new External Drive. These are tax
programs and I can't afford to make any mistakes and lose
any materials.

I am not real computer savy. I could have done it under
Windows 98 using winfile, but that doesn't seem to work
under XP.

Thank you,
Sharon

You might be interested in this program http://www.ghisler.com/ I've been
using it for years and can't imagine doing without it. Very customizable.
But the main thing is having two file windows side by side.

If you want to have the two windows open at the same time, just open one,
then go back to My Computer and open the other.

You can do this through Windows Explorer, you don't need additional
software.

Open Windows Explorer and click My Computer and you will see all drives and
directories. Locate the directories/folders where the files you wish to
transfer are located.

Now highlight each file you wish to transfer by holding down the Cntrl Key
and clicking each file, (if the files are in a continuous block hold down
the Shift key and click the first file of the block then the last and all
files in between will be highlighted). Alternatively if you wish to
relocate the whole folder, just hold down the Cntrl key and click the
folder.

Now position the mouse cursor over one of the highlighted files or folder
and press the right mouse button and hold. "Drag" the files/folder to the
location (directory on the new drive (drive G:)). Release the mouse button
and choose whether you wish to Move or Copy the files to the new location.
I suggest you chose copy then you can verify the files have indeed been
relocated.

Once you are satisfied all is well you can go to the original location and
delete the files you have moved.

If you really need a "File Manager" with two windows open side by side you
could try Total Commander (previously Windows Commander). That is likely
one of the best of the bunch.
