New Emails Vanish from Inbox

Dear all

I have a user who receives messages from one sender in particular which
vanish from the Inbox almost as soon as they are recieved. All other
messages from other senders are delivered into the inbox and stay there.

There are no filters applied, all messages are delivered to Exchange (5.5)
and not to a *.pst.

What has me stumped is that it is just this one sender. My user doesn't have
them listed in their junk senders list either (anyway the message just
vanishes and doesn't even go into the Deleted Items folder).

Any help appreciated

thanks

Do these messages end up in another folder? (like Deleted Items?)
With filters did you mean Wizard Rules? Indeed see if there are none
applied. Note that you can only see the Wizard Rules of the mailbox when the
mailbox is set as the Outlook Today box.
Also check your Views. You might need to reset the "Messages" view in View->
Current View-> Define Views...

I have accessed the mailbox setting it as the default mailbox and there are
no rules applied. Also the user assures me that there are no filters (ie the
view is set to Messages) and in any case all other messages are received
without problem.

Even when I look into the mailbox I cannot see any messages from the sender
we are having trouble with. The received message doesn't get moved to any
other folder in the mailbox.

cheers

Roady,
I've just recently started having the same problem; the email download
dialog box shows messages coming in (even one where I had 7 messages for a
total of 1.2 MB) but then there's nothing in my Inbox. I sent a test
message from one email account to the other, and it showed it coming in, but
still nothing was there. The only thing that has changed recently was an
Office Update for Outlook 2003 I recently installed. Since then, I have had
this problem. I think I'm going to uninstall the patch and see if the
problem resolves.

Any idea of what the deal is? They are not in any other folder, period.

Do you see any numbers next to any of the folders indicating unread
messages? Then you might want to reset the view. I suggest you set the
account property to leave the messages on the server to make sure you can
reach your messages somehow. The latest patch of Outlook is a Junk Filter
update. Unless you've set your Junk Filter options to delete Junk or Wizard
Rules set to delete specific mail it's very unlikely that they are deleted
when they arrive.

No, there are no folders with unread messages in them. And if they are
being deleted, wouldn't they be in either the Junk Mail folder or the
Deleted Items folder? I think this is a glitch, plain and simple. I'm
going to uninstall the patch I downloaded and see if that fixes the problem.

Roady,

I couldn't uninstall the Junk Email filter update, but running a Repair on
Office fixed the problem for me. Now the emails that I receive are showing
up in my Inbox.

Whew!

Jesse

Good to hear the problem is solved! :-)
