new dvd+- r/rw drive installed, wont burn

i have recently swapped in a lite on drive. but for some
reason none of my programs will recognize this drive as
a "burnable" drive. i had this problem with my cd-rw
drive when i upgraded from 98se to xp, but now with the
new install it is giving me the same problems. i had
been given a reg fix that worked, but in this case there
is more than one line on the dvd drive (the cd-rom & cd-
rw drives only had one line to edit). so i cant make the
same change (without mistakenly messing with the dvd
burning portion.) does anybody know of any specific
registry(or other)fixes to get xp to recognize my dvd
burner to have burning abilities through my other
programs? the other problem i am seeing is that xp
itself will allow me to change the properties to enable
this drive to be a drag & drop cd burning drive...so does
that mean the drive is just too new for the media
programs? thanks again! ben

It is quite possible you need newer software. When I installed a DVD Burner
in my computer I could not burn anything until I upgraded my already
installed copy of Nero. It burned CDs fine but was not DVD enabled.
