I had to put a new drive in P.C.. I made it bootable. and was able to move
all my files from the old to the new. But after talking with a friend he
sugested that I make the frist partion (40g) for XP only. I.E. move all other
files to other partion (60g) after he explained it it seemed to be a good
idea. The problem I ran in to was when I moved a file and tryed to change its
tagert path I got a error saying not a valid path. All I did waas go to
prorties of the icon and change the letter of the taget from c:\ to D:\

Any ideas

Changing the drive letter for the icon does nothing. You need to have the
program installed on the D: partition for it to work correctly.

There is no good reason to allocate 40Gb entirely to XP.. your 'expert'
friend should also have made it clear to you that it is not possible to move
programs in the way that you have.. they must be re-installed onto another
partition.. you can, however, move user generated files easily..

You may as well install programs onto C:.. if ever you have to re-install
the OS, other programs will require re-installation because program
installations place files into the operating system anyway..

As long as you keep maybe 25% free space available on C:, there will be more
than enough for Windows to strut it's stuff..
