Is it possible to install a new domain and keep the setting on your computer?
We are about to change to a new domain. When we set this new domain up on my computer, we copied c:\documents and settings\karena to c:\documents and setting\karena.new domain.
When I rebooted to the new domain, all my programs where there, but all my icons on my desktop where gone. It was like I had to set my whole computer up again.
Is there ANY way to keep the old settings since we are about to do this to 250 computers?

Thanks In Advance!!!
Karen

Aren't all the user's domain settings stored on the old
server? I'm no expert here... never tried to rollover to a
different domain controller...but can ya just copy the
user settings to a disk then move the disk to the new
domain controller?

Or do the security identifers somehow get in the way?

Anyone else?

Did you migrate your old domain or did you simply create a new one?

You could use USMT which would of captured all your application, file and
profile settings to a location by which you could be able to roll it back
into your existing profile.

If you opt not to want to do that and don't care about certain settings just
want to save persisted files (e.g. mydocuments, things on desktop,
favorites) you should copy those folders from "C:\documents and
settings\<user>" to a temporary location and then revert it back to the user
profile you care about.

This is also a good practice if you have a local profile which gets
corrupted (e.g. Logs on to domain and the profile says "still applying
settings"). COpying those files, deleting the local profile, logging back
in as the profile and then copying the persisted files back will help out
alot here.
