New Distribution Lists

I have hundreds of contacts, all broken down by category. I want to create a unique distribution list for each category. Is there a way to add (or import) all the contacts belonging to a particular category into a single distribution list.

It looks as if I have to select each person and then add. This is highly unproductive
 
Instead of distribution list you could use a mail merge to e-mail. Simply
create a view to show your contacts by category. Select the entire group and
initiate the mail merge.
