I am about to take receipt of a brand spankin new Dell. Before I power this thing up for the first time, are their any suggestions about what to do first, how to do it etc. I don't even know enough to know what kind of questions to ask. I am taling about the initial start up. Anything special as to how to enter my name/set up a network etc? I have a home network running now, this will be an additon. It will be a wired system that will be added to a system that has a wired PC and a wireless PC

Any help or kind suggestions greatly appreciated

Thanks

Enable a firewall BEFORE connecting the network cable:

Then install Critical Updates from Windows Update.

I'm a former product specialist and Supervisor for Dell tech Support, I too own a Dimension 4400 and love it. There are "ways" of getting things accomplished, should you need help I'd be glad to help

Thanks for the offer. I have a 4600 (the wife actual) and 8100 (bad idea), and right now a XPS loaded for bear. Had a problem with the video card and/or the mother board when she arrived. The guy comes by replaces the components and splits and I am a campy happer. I did spend 45 minutes on the phone waiting to talk to someone. They apologized and said that there had been a bigger rush on the XPS than anticipated. I can believe it for the price I paid.

Again, thanks for the offer. I will be coming back here a bunch, I betcha
