When selecting "Log on using dial up" from the stadard Windows xp login
screen the "New..." option is greyed out. Why is this? Is it something
controlled by the local group policy and if so where?

Sorry Malke, this article is nothing to do with the problem. I am talking
about creating a new dial up connection before even entering Windows. There
is an option to do this when selecting log on using dial up, but it is greyed
out.

How can you create a new dialup connection without even entering
Windows? Windows is your operating system. What operating system are you
using when you want to create the connection? DOS? What exactly are you
trying to do?

Addendum - I just reread your original post and realized that you are
trying to dial up to join a domain. Sorry for my misreading and please
disregard my previous post. I've never used this dialup function because
all the domains I've set up use broadband networking for a WAN. I did
Google for "cannot set connection to dial up to a domain" and got a few
possible links to follow.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cannot+set+connection+to+dial+up+to+a+domain&btnG=Google+Search

If they aren't helpful, then all I can suggest is:

1. Ask your IT Dept. to deal with this.
2. Call Microsoft tech support for servers - expensive but excellent.
3. Post in one of the server newsgroups - http://aumha.org/nntp.htm -
list of MS newsgroups

I'm sorry that I was unable to help you.
