microsoft windows 95 (c) copyright corp 1981 - 1996
C:\>

I would like to install windows XP Pro I have the disc.
Can any one help me and tell me how I do this.

This might seem vey stupid to those who can do it, I am
just learning. Please help !!

What sought of computer did you buy, an old one?

There is a text file on the CD that explains your options.

But you read the computer manual and set your computer to boot from CD is the usual method. Stick the CD in. reboot, and Setup should start.

if the machine has had Windows 95 on it then you really must run the Upgrade
Advisor first - it may well be that the machine is too old and low spec to
run XP.

I would not even try to put xp on a 95 machine. Best just to upgrade to
98se.

Hope you didn't pay more than $50 for it, it is probably so
limited that it can't run XP, you need at least a 5 to 10 GB
hard drive to install XP and have room for applications. A
W95 computer may have less than 1 GB. You probably should
look to buying a refurbished Dell that has the modern
features and software you'll (she'll) need.
To upgrade that old computer you will need more RAM (most
W95 machines had 32 MB and XP needs 128-512 to run well),
the hard drive is small and the BIOS and motherboard won't
support the XP operating system. And it will cost you
another $100 to buy an upgrade XP CD (but you can't do an
upgrade, you will have to do a clean install and have the
W95 installation media as proof [or buy a full retail XP for
$200].
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, see www.dell.com
Cheaper in the long run and it will work far better and
faster, all those old W95 machines are slow.

Hi. All we can guess is that a Windows 95 Startup disk was used to format
the drive. This could be a relatively new machine that the seller simply
used a Windows 95 floppy to FDISK and Format with in order to wipe the
contents of the drive. On the other hand it could be an old system that XP
won't even install on. To install XP take this link
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/clean_install.htm scroll to the bottom of
the page if you need more help.

As others have pointed out if this system doesn't meet minimum specs then
you will encounter difficulty installing XP. However many systems that were
built after 1999 will run XP providing the hard drive is at least 4GB and
the RAM is at least 128MB. Post back with the system specs if you know them
or the make and model number of the computer if you have that.
