Hello All,

I have just purchased a new computer and was wondering
what the ramifications of loading my old hard drive as my
primary disk into the new set would be. I am running
Windows XP Pro on this CPU and would like to use the new
hard drive for storage only.

Will I experience a problem?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bruno

Hi,
XP is installed on the primary drive of the new machine.
It's the "C:" drive.
Putting the older drive as primary would make it the "C:" drive de facto and
push your new one to "D:".
Your current XP installation would not load.
Simple as that.

The new computer probably has a faster hard drive than your
old drive so the computer would likely boot a little slower.
Also, you would need to do a repair install because the
drivers for the new computer are not likely to be the same
as those from the old computer mobo, CPU and graphics, etc.

If the OS on the old drive is OEM you can't move the OS to a
new computer.

It would be easier to just use the old drive as a slave,
booting the computer from the new hard drive, just as it was
delivered.
