Hi Guys and Gals
Just built myself a new pc , and have a problem.
Here is what i built.
Asus Motherboard=P5LD2 Deluxe
PCI Express Video Card = ATI Express X1300 Pro , 256MGB
CPU = Pentium D = 3.2GHZ , 800mhz fsb , 2x2 mb L2 cache
Memory = 2 gig , PC2 5300 (DDR2)

When i boot the pc all seams to work acording to the led lites, but no
monitor.
PC does not turn on the monitor , I know the monitor works , i unhooked it
and put it back on my other pc and it fired right up.
Is this a video card problem or could it be motherboard , or something else?
When i started it the first time i heard some beeps but didn't catch how
many or anything.
On reboots there are no beeps at all.
Just looking on advise where to start looking.
Thanks

Got a good power supply in there? Does that video card require a
separate connection to the power supply? If yes, did you remember to
connect it?

I'm going to assume that you get a "black screen" when the *only* components
that are installed are your power supply, processor & heatsink, RAM modules,
and graphics card. Nothing else. No sound card, no HDD, no external
devices - nothing else but those basic components. Is that so?

Assuming it is...

You just have to review the installation & connections of those components.
1. Are you certain the motherboard has been properly installed? Any chance
that it may be shorting out against the case because of improper
installation?
2. As far as you can determine, the processor is properly seated? Ditto the
heatsink? The CPU fan is turning?
3. The video card is likewise properly installed and correctly seated in its
slot? You've checked any power connection to the card per Malke's
suggestion?
4. You've checked & rechecked the motherboard's User Manual to ensure its
BIOS settings have been correctly selected? Any jumper settings on the
motherboard to contend with?
5. You've checked the connections to the system panel connector on the
motherboard?
6. Do you have a power supply tester that you can use?

Proceed slowly & in a methodical way.

If still no go and you conclude (after a thorough review) that as best as
you can determine all components have been properly installed and connected,
then the only realistic course of action is to substitute components on a
one-by-one basis with the goal of determining if one is defective and if so,
which one. I realize this is not usually possible for the casual builder but
there's really no other practical course of action in this type of
situation.

Hi Everyone
(Malke) Yes i believe i have a good powersupply, everything lites up when i
turn it on.
CD Rom try opens , power and HD lites come on , video card fan works.

(Anna) Yes i have tried all you sugested. Rechecked all connections , I
now only have the keyboard and mouse and monitor conectid to it.
The monitor does not get power fro the pc when i turn it on , the power lite
on the monitor just keeps flashing like it does when the pc is shut
down,never attempts to come on..
I should not need a HD hooked up for it to get to the BIOS should i ? (i
have never tried that before).
Almost seems to me like it has to be video card. I hear no beeps from the
mobo.
Thanks again.

HD lites come on, but you don't have a HD hooked up?
I don't know if monitors are supposed to do anything with no hard drive in
the computer. I haven't tried that in years. Try hooking one up and see if
it does something. Have you checked the other parts? You say you have
another computer that proved the monitor works? Is it compatible at all?
Can you plug in any pieces to test, at least maybe try the power supply
and/or video card in the other computer?
Did you check the motherboard/video card power requirements? Are you sure
the power supply is good enough? Are you maybe using a 400-450 when you
should have a 500-600?

Carl G:
The fact that "everything lites up when i turn it (i.e., the computer) on"
is *not* a definitive indication that the PS is non-defective. But it's a
start so we'll assume (at least for the moment) that it's not a PS problem.

As I previously explained -- do *not* connect a HDD at this point -- just
the basic components I listed.

It could very well be a defective or improperly connected graphics (video)
card. The only way to definitively determine that is to replace the card
with a known good one.

Hi all
I tried a different power supply and no go ,these are 400W , with nothing
hooked up i would think that is big enough.(am i wrong)
Shouldn't i be getting some beeps to tell me something is wrong?
Eaven when i don't plug in the keyboard i don't get no beeps.
Thanks

Carl G:
I'll give this one last shot...

Forget about beeps, OK?

Follow my previous instructions and do the best you can. If still no go,
then my advice would be to take the PC in to a repair shop and let them
diagnose the problem. If defective component(s) then an RMA would be the
next step.

Hi Anna
I am trying to get in contact with asus now.
That could be a long drawn out process.
Thanks

You might want to post your problems in the Asus Usenet newsgroup,
alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus.

I was looking at the ASUS review and noticed that the mobo
has two PCIe x16 slots but defaults to one active. Perhaps
you have the video card in the wrong slot?

Hi all
Thanks for all the info.
I got ahold of Asus and sent the board back, now we will see how long that
takes.
By the way , i did try the second Video slot to.
Thanks again for trying to help me out.

The computer's manual (or the motherboard's manual) would usually list the
codes/beeps associated with the error signals - eg two short beeps in
succession might indicate a keyboard is not plugged in.

The monitor blinks cause it's not getting a video signal.
it could be a defective video card can you install the card in a different
working pc to test?
also without an HD installed you should be getting some beeps from the
bios
as it doesn't have a boot source. if not something is wrong.
