New computer- now no names in address book after exporting

Okay, this is complicated but when I click on To.. a message comes up: "The
address list could not be displayed"...etc.. and when I click OK it goes away
and the "select names" dialog box appears but without any names until I go to
the drop down that says "contacts" and low and behold there is another
"contacts" list and when I scroll down one and choose it, it displays the
names that are supposd to be available. How can i get rid of the empty one
and get the other contaxt list to come up when I click To..? Thanks so much!

I tried to do that but it was already checked. Name of the address book is
"contacts", maybe that's the problem. What next?
 
Don't start a new thread - simply read the response that Russ gave you in the original thread. Remove the invalid reference - Russ tells you how.

Sorry but I am going to be in real trouble if I don't get this fixed. I did
not see Russ' response and thought no one was giong to reply with any further
help.

I did what he suggested but still get the message: "the address list could
not be displayed" all that does is get me to a message stating "select the
show this folder as an email address book check box" and that is what I did
in hte beginning. What else should I do? Thanks for your help.

another box pops up. He didn't say to do anything after another box pops up.
It gives me the message on how to designate a contact folder as an address
book which I already did! the box is checked to make it an address book
allready. Please tell me how to fix this problem. I am pretty computer
literate and can follow directions it's just that nothing I have been asked
to do so far has fixed it.

Remove the Outlook Address Book service from Outlook, stop and restart
Outlook, add the service back in, stop and restart Outlook.
 
I can't figure out how to Remove the Outlook Address Book service from
Outlook, could you possibly tell me how?
 
Reread my post. I told you exactly what to do. You _remove_ the invalid
reference to a Contacts Folder here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change.
 
I did do that! When I do that and click change a box pops up with....well
reread my post below it tells you exactly what happens when I do that. What
is the matter with you guys. Very arrogant and un helpful. So, when we do
exactly what you guys tell us to do and it doesn't work yo just get mad at us
and repeat the same thing???

Your post doesn't really convey very much. I suspect you removed wrong
reference. Remove the current one and add back the other.

I am sorry but, he told me to click on "change"' not "remove" so how could I
have removed anything? Should I click remove instead of change? Thanks!

He is I. Repeating: I told you to click on Tools > E-mail accounts > View or
change existing directories or address books > Outlook Address Book >
Change.
In that dialog you find the dialog to remove the folder that is no longer
valid and that generates the error you are getting.
