Just purchased computer last week. Seemed to set up fine,
including initial ISP setup, then started
receiving "serious errors have occurred, need to close
messages" frequently and then it would start crashing to a
blank screen with no hard drive activity. This was before
I had time to create the system recovery disks. HP's
customer support sent me a set and I did a complete
reformat and reinstall last night. Twice. Now it ends
the process and says "NTFLR file missing" on the top line
and "press CTR+ALT+DEL to restart" on the second, which
accomplishes nothing but to get back to the same point.

Any ideas before I get back on the phone with HP's call
center in India?

Thanks, Alan

If you are experiencing all those problems with a brand new computer,
I would suggest returning it for a refund and purchase a different one,
such as a Dell.

As Carey says you should discuss this with HP. It sounds like a hardware
problem. It could be a defective hard drive or flaky RAM.
