Unlike missing CD Drives....I have an extra CD Drive that just created it's
self.

I'm sure I can delete it (it's not in Device Manger....only in "My Computer").

Question: ¿Whats up with that? !!!!!

Q: Have you recently installed any software that may provide a 'virtual' CD
drive ? ie.- PowerISO, Alcohol 120%%, etc ?

1. to DanS....no
2. to Pete.....have rebooted many times
3. to emanon....I have 2 gigs of RAM

¿Are there any other ideas? I would rather not "just" delete it, with out
knowing what's going on.

Try more memory. Then upgrade your video card. That's why Vista was
developed: to force people to buy more hardware.

I applaud your desire to know "why"; too many people just throw crap at a
problem until it goes away and just forget it. We're a small crowd <g>.

It sounds like something may have created a virtual drive or something,
possibly during an install, and it wasn't completely straightened out when
the process completed. Have you looked to see if you can read any
Properties of the drive? What is its letter, assuming one was assigned?
What happens if you go to a Command Prompt and try to switch to that drive
with X: where X is the drive letter? Have you looked in Disk
Management for any hints?
It's possible, long shot, that it's even malware; just a folder with a
drive-like icon.

That's simply nonsense. It might at least be a plausible theory if Microsoft
were in the business of selling that kind of hardware, but they're not.

Vista was developed for the same reason that every other version of Windows,
Office, etc. was developed--to make money for Microsoft, not to make money
for other companies.

If Microsoft doesn't come out with a new version of Windows and Office every
few years, the market gets saturated with their old products, and they have
nothing left to sell. The result is that they would go out if business.

Found out the extra drive is my HP Officejet All-in-One installed on one of
my USB ports.....go figure.

Go figure indeed. Does that printer have a slot for a camera memory card?
If yes, that's probably why it gets assigned a letter. If no, I have no
idea what the explanation would be other than "HP weirdness" ;)
