What's special about them? Taking Print-Rite ink?

I don't know a comprehensive list of CLI-8 suppliers, but I'd add JetTec
to them:

http://www.jettec.de/canon_instructions.asp

Their pricing is ridiculous by now: Prices here are :

CLI-8: recommended: 13.99, street price: 10, JetTec: 6 - 7.50
BCI-8: recommended: 10.99, street price: 8, JetTec: 3

all prices in Euro, which translates 1:1 to USD, since they include tax.
At the moment the price difference is too small in order NOT to use the
original ink, comparing the drawbacks of 3rd party, with less warranty
and lost full/empty detection.

Check the URL for their chip carrier mechanism.

Who else offers CLI-8? Price? chip holder?

I guess there are e.g. Peach and KMP. Some want to glue the chip on the
tank, some have snap mechanisms.
