Hello, if i install a new drive, which is to be a replacement for a failing
drive, can I get away with just copying the contents off the old one onto
the new one, then installing that? I seem to remember something about MBR
etc. How will Vista react if I do this, will it require reactivation? Will I
have to reinstall all programs that are on the other hard drives? Is there
any cloning utility I can use, for example within Nero 8 as I have that?

If you have either a Maxtor or Seagate hard drive, you can download an
ISO from their website that can be burned to a CD that will clone your
old drive to the new one. Now whether Vista will see that as "new
hardware" and require that you bend over for Microsoft's WPA program, I
couldn't say.

If you don't know then don't answer. We don't need misleading
statements about WPA from the likes of you, a known and admitted liar
and MS/Vista hater.
Correct answer, yes, just clone your existing C drive to your new
drive, remove the old drive and you should be good to go.
Acronis is an excellent app to clone a drive.
You should not have to be concerned about that. Mac and Linux do not
have that aggravation. It took a while but the Unix based Mac Leopard
is superior to Vista at this point.

I did exactly that using a download of Acronis True Image.
Very easy to use and no issues once I'd swapped the drives.
