new buyer question need help

I am interested in buying a printer/scanner. I don't want copying or faxing
on it. What is the best one to buy. I might have to buy it from dell because
of money issues. I don't want a dell brand. I want to make sure the picture
quality is good as well as the scanning capability. Thanks for all who
respond. I will read and possibly comment on your post. Thanks

You might take a look at the HP PSC 2110, which is a printer, scanner, copier
at $149 or the PSC 2175 which additionally has card slots for direct printing
from various styles of camera cards at $199. See the following for details:

You said you do not need fax or copying capability. I do not know of any
manufacturer that has a printer/scanner combination that does not also have
copying capability.

also, I'm looking for a good scanning resolution and good printing
resolution. nothing too bulky either.
 
I'm couldn't find any lexmark,epson,or canon that interested me. I don't
mind about the copying but I don't want the fax option for sure. I don't
really care about printing from a digital camera. any other suggestions
would be appreciated. I want pretty good printing quality.
 
I have just purchased the all in one p.s.c and find the size and ease of use
are great, but the only drawback,
(as far as i am concerned anyway) is that to print text in greyscale(black)
you have to remove the colour cartridge,because the p.s.c default is
colour,and you are unable to change it, i have been in touch with hp tech
site and was informed that the hp1205 is mostly a photo machine,and i would
have to indeed get used to swapping cartridges for text/photos printing its
a pity because it seems a nice machine for the price of £99 complete with
inks
oh well i have got that of my chest, just thought i would let you know
incase anybody was thinking of purchasing one

I think the HP PSC 2110 would be a good choice. It is about $149. See the

HP has one of the smallest footprinted "all in one".

Canon, Epson and Lexmark all make them. Your quality needs, ink type
(pigmented or dye, etc) all enter into the equation. They all have been
reduced in size this last year, but the HP is smallest. Also consider
cost of consumables, quality of the scanner and length of warranty.

Considering the current prices on these machines, I'm amazed they work
at all.

I think you have your needs confused. I don't believe anyone makes a
unit that is "just a printer and scanner" and doesn't have copying and
faxing ability, since those are natural extensions of a unit that has a
printer and a scanner together.

If you must have a unit that is both in one, you will have to "deal
with" the other features. Canon makes some very small scanners that can
be stored sideways when not in use. I think you need a scanner and a
printer, separately, if you want to be as picky as you sound.

Oh, I forgot, you don't want it to cost anything either... hmmm../.

Dell's printers are made for them by Lexmark.

Indeed, his suggestion might be reasonable, but there is a certain

Hi Art - no conflict of interest here, I give full disclosure in all my posts.
I work for HP and proclaim that in my signature. I also speak for myself, not
for HP. I read and reply to this newsgroup on my own time for a few reasons -
to keep informed on user needs,wants, and problems. I answer a lot of
questions here. When someone asks about a printer that will meet their
specific needs I recommend the best HP model that would fit their needs,
assuming I have an opinion. I happen to have experience with a large number of
printers. This user asked about a printer and scanner that would be cheap,
provide good output and also have a scanner. I referred them to check out the
HP PSC 2110, which may meet their needs. I happen to have a similar model on
my desk at home and at work, and make this recommendation based on experience.
You cal this conflict of interest; I call it experience. I an not in sales,
marketing or support for HP, I do this to help folks and keep in touch.

Thank you . I will buy them seperately. Thanks for everyone's input. What's
a good printer that you would recommend?
