Bill

I am building a completely new computer using Asus A8V socket 939 mobo. I
have two Seagate 160g SATA drives connected to a Promise onboard controller.
When trying to install Windows XP Pro, I hit F6 as instructed to add raid
drivers. At the next screen I push S and it takes me to the screen that
tells me to input the diskette and hit enter which I do. After a period it
time it gives me the same message, insert diskette and hit enter. Its as if
it does not recognize the floppy drive. Is there a simple answer? Being a
61 year old "newby", I apologize if this question is something I should have
known. Thanks for any assistance you may provide.

Hi Bill,

Check that the floppy cable is connected in the right orientation.

Try a standard 9x boot floopy - does this work?

Rick,

Yes, I am glad to say that it did work. The Teac floppy does not have
anyway to identify the No. 1 pin and does not have a "slot" to keep from
connecting incorrectly while the motherboard does. The Seagate DiscWizard
ran perfectly but I am having problems with XP. The F8 button does not seem
to be working on the keyboard that will allow me to accept the Microsoft
agreement. I will however, keep trying. Many thanks for the reply.

I ran into this particular issue while installing
a windows 2003 server. What I had to do was determine what path the setup
routine was looking for and make sure that it was that way on the floppy.
So I had to create a couple folders and put the drivers in a subfolder.
It was a while back that I did this so I cannot remember the path and
folder names. Perhaps one of these MVPs can steer you in that direction.
Shame that this bugaboo exists in the microsoft setup routine.
