for the moment i am using windows defender version 1.1.1051.0
engine version 1.1.1303.0
signature version 1.14.1395.2

i have seen that ther i sa new build 1347 , my version is 1051 , i am not
getting a upgrade with "automatic updates" or "check for updates" for this
new build .

do i have to manualy uninstall build 1051.0 and install 1347 ?

maybe it will be soon available in a update ?

wich things are changed in the new build ?

thanks for the help in advance

The installer for build 1347 will delete the old version and then install the
new one. You have to redefine your settings. A new option is the display of
the icon.

joris:
JohanL49 is correct. Do not delete 1051. Install 1347 ontop of 1051. It will
install only what is new. Look at the download size and you will see that
1051 has 6.40MB and 1347 only 5.49.

will it not be available trough "automatic updates or "check for updates ",
or does it always need to be installed manualy this new build ?

Hi Joris

I honestly don`t know the answer to that one right now. Have only seen the
Engine and Defs (of course) made available thru updates so far. Perhaps Bill
Sanderson could throw some light on the subject?

My impression is that this update will require a manual visit to the
download site. It is possible that it may become automatic in the future.

I just installed the new version over the old. I did not use any "tweaks" to
update it. I was prompted to update and clicked the supplied button. Then I
received an error message but the updates completed successfully anyway. I
checked the Event Viewer and NO error messages in any categories. Old version
and def's uninstalled, new version and def's installed, up and running, RTP
on, Quick Scan completed w/o problem. I don't know what caused the error
message, but it was transient and must have just been a glitch. It was not
necessary to use Microsoft updates.

Thanks for the report. One time that I've seen errors a few times in the
last 3 days is when two (autoupdate) uses are happening at the same
time--could be WindowsUpdate and Defender, Windows Live OneCare and
Defender--not sure what the combos are, but Defender will cough, or,
sometimes, Windows Update will. If you then repeat the attempt, it goes
fine.

I used this method to update to the new build 1347. Everything worked fine
for me. I have the new update and current definitions installed.

1. Remove Windows Defender ,,,Go to the windows control panel then add
remove programs.
2. Using Windows install cleanup program I removed the definitions.
3. Then I ran the CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) program and rebooted.
4. Download the new build and install. It installed, scanned and updated
to the new definitions without a hitch.

I simply ran the new installer. I'm up to at least 6 machines so far, with
nary a hiccup.

"Check for updates" will only get new versions of the engine and
definitions. There is a separate notification process for new versions of
the software. We plan to do the notification of a new version in the near
future if this build works for you guys. We do not want to tell millions of
people to update until we're sure that the quality of the product is high
enough - so test test test!!!

Thanks

I have the new version(WD Version 1.1.1347.0/Engine Verseion 1.1.1303.0/Def.
Version 1.14.1395.2) Anyway I think it is the latest, but I can not find the
option display of icon. Can you tell me where to find it? It is not an option
in my settings. Thanks...

Under "Tools"->"Options" look for the word "Always" -> it's near the end of
the RTP section (don't forget to scroll on the right side of the windows)

I'll get a few dozen more machines going on the new version tonight and
tomorrow--so far no issues to report, although I have to say that my own
machine--which did not update cleanly last time around on 1051, was on the
new build in time for the last update, and also did not update cleanly that
time. (i.e. the new build had trouble.)

I'm not keeping count, but I know other MVP's, for example, who missed that
scroll bar too!

If that is your policy not to tell millions of people to update until sure of
quality ! why did you withdraw beta1 and actively encourage people to install
beta 2 on the microsoft site ? ok so its marked as a beta ! but by
implication on your site its a must to install !
