Hello:

I'm trying to add new AutoShapes to an existing doc. When I draw them, I
see the adjustment handles but no shape. Where is it? Previously created
AutoShapes show up fine, but I can not seem to create new ones. The
"Picture Placeholders" box is not checked.

Thanks -

Hi Leonard

Maybe the default for AutoShapes has been set to have no line (ie no
border) and no fill. So the shape is there (you can see the adjustment
handles) but you can't see it. Try this: drag to create the shape. While
you can still see the adjustment handles, choose Format > AutoShape. Set
a fill and/or set the line so you can see the shape.

If that solved the problem, you can re-set the default. Create an
AutoShape with the line and fill you want as a default. Right-click that
AutoShape and choose Set AutoShape Defaults. Nothing appears to happen,
but all future AutoShapes will have that line and fill as defaults.

Hope this helps.

Note, however, that Set AutoShape Defaults applies only to the current
document. To change it for all new documents, you must make the change in
Normal.dot.
