New AGP graphics card, same drivers

My main system is an EPoX 8KMM3I-X with Sempron 2300+ running WinXP Home
SP2. It's had an ATI 9800Pro in it for less than two months, running fine
until a couple of days ago when it started giving me occasional black
screens, and now it's gotten much worse, black screens, freezes, blue
screens with stop errors and a variety of error messages. Reinstalling
drivers, and removing then reseating the card, made no difference. It will
no longer run any benchmark, or even the DirectX test in DXDiag, So I'm
satisfied it's as good as dead and have gotten an RMA for it.

I've ordered a Sapphire 9600XT as a replacement and it should be here
tomorrow.

Now my question is this: I already have the latest ATI drivers for the 9xxx
cards installed. Can I just put in the new card and start 'er up, or do I
have to remove the drivers and then reinstall 'em after I put the new card
in? I'm asking because I read somewhere that with Nvidia cards the same
drivers configure themselves differently for different cards, so are
supposed to be reinstalled with any change, and I don't know if this would
apply to these presumably closely related ATI cards as well.

Remove existing drivers !.
Install correct drivers for new card 1>

ATI provides a driver *package*, and when you install a graphics card,
the specific driver for your particular card is installed from that
package.
So, if you switch ATI cards, you have to deinstall the driver and
apply the driver package again after physically installing the new card.

Thanks to both of you who answered. That's what I'll do then, and I
appreciate the good advice.
