Getting ready to build a new box with this mobo. There is one cd that came
in the box that is an Nvidia installation disk... So is this the only
softare that I need to run?

In addition - I have previously installed VIA 4 in 1 drivers on the
harddrive that will be going into this box. Will they conflict with
anything when I boot up for the first time? (I wasn't planning on
reformatting).

thanks in advance.

The A7N8X is a Nforce2 Chipset, what was your last chipset ?

If they are different (I assume this is why you are upgrading) putting the
old OS on the new MB may work but may not.

I have only done 15-20 MB upgrades over the years so would not consider
myself an expert but every time I have tried this without re installing the
OS I have had nothing but trouble (ranging from not booting to constant
crashing)

As for the CD, yes this has everything but use the latest Nvidia 2.45
drivers from Nvidia web site , for me they are stable and showed a
noticeable speed increase.

Hope this helps

It MAY work, no guarantees. In general, when performing an upgrade as major
as a motherboard change, it's better to do a completely fresh install. Also
depends on which OS you're running, XP will probably cope a lot better than
Win '98

i ran an asus a7v333 and upgraded to a7n8x dlx - from via to nforce2 - winXP
would *NOT* boot, atleast as an 'as is' setup. actual order was a7v333 ->
epox 8rda3+ (nforce2 ultra) -> asus a7n8x (nforce2 ultra). going from via ->
nforce2 - problems. from epox -> asus nforce2 baords - problem free.

maybe if you uninstalled the hyperion/via 4in1 drivers, and any other
dedicated controllers for the via/motherboard operation it might work. i
would however recommend a full, clean reinstall of winXP

yes, thats the only software you need to run (on the asus install disc)
however, there are later nvidia drivers for the nforce2 board, so head to
www.nvidia.com and get the latest v3.13 version

if you install the asus install disc drivers, then DONT installed the IDE SW
drivers (they rectified this on the nvidia v2.45 drivers). i had speed
problems with my HDD's. apprently it collides with the winXP IDE drivers.
