Never Got SP1

I have a Dell laptop that's about a year old and a new Dells XPS
desktop that I got in April just before PCs started shipping with
SP1. Both machines have VISTA Ultimate. I have my Windows Update set
to notify me when new updates become available, but not to install
automatically. I have never received notification of SP1 on either
machine. Shouldn't it have come through by now?

As usual the Yanaire idiot dodges the actual question.

The OP didn't ask how to manually install updates, he asked why brain
dead Vista is too damn stupid to let him know updates are available.

One common reason is what's behind a lot of Vista's problems. BAD
DESIGN. When you tell Vista to let you know about new updates it
quietly accumulates that information and is suppose to put a icon on
the Task Bar. Because of poor design if you have lots of icons at the
far right some get hidden. So the one that informs you about updates
might be there, but you can't see it unless and until you click on the
'show hidden icons' arrow. You would think Vista would pop a window
and let you know, but it usually doesn't.

You are too stupid to configure your copy of Vista. You can't even copy
files without a problem. Millions of others can copy files but Ringmaster
the retard can't. Go figure. Maybe DOS 6.22 is more your style.

It shows the icon and tells me there are updates, and I have installed
dozens of them since getting either machine (the last of which crashed
the computer so I had to go back to a restore point).

My question is, since I'm getting a steady stream of updates, why
hasn't SP1 been among them?

Uhhh...I guess you didn't know (as usual) that you can set the taskbar
to hide or show inactive icons huh?

Oh, so you do know huh? Then it is a users choice (or problem) and not a
design flaw nor a bug nor MS's fault, right?
Well, I'm glad we got that straighten out.
 
On a Dell machine (mine is XPS410) I would suspect that you need to install
the latest driver for your on-board audio driver especially if is an
SigmaTel driver.

don't know squat about Vista and keep proving your ignorance just like
your fellow idiot Yanaire does.

Thanks - that's a great KB article. I do have some updates that I
didn't install. As I said, the last one I got crashed the system. I
will back up the entire thing and try again to get all updates
installed.
