I am attempting to install a new windows XP Professional
Machine onto an exisating windows 98 Network. The
workgroup settings are fine and the ping command on any
of the network nodes IP's returns a response wit 0%
packet loss FROM the XP computer. Ping'ing the XP
computer from the 98 machines yields a Request Time Out.
Using NET VIEW or Windows Explorer, the 98 Computers are
accessible through IP adresses, but none appear under the
Network Computers section of NEtwork Places.
Using Net Neighbourhood on the 98 Machines, The new
computer appears but is inaccessible, returning an error
that the "share name could not be found".
When I ran the network troubleshooter, It diagnosed that
the network name on the new XP machine may not be unique.
However, after following the instructions to modify the
name many a time, nothing was resolved.
The XP Machine is NTFS and the '98 Machines are (of
course) Fat32, does this affect anything?? Please help!!!
