I want to setup a LAN of 10 computers using Windows XP
Home edition. Do i need to buy 10 copies of Windows XP
Home Edition, or only 1 copy can be used to make the
network. Kindly tell the KB article for setting up the Lan
using XP Home

Thanx
gaurav

if you want to do it in the legal way - you need 10 licences.
if not...why did you buy the one you currently have? :)

I think you'll need XP Pro if you want all 10 computers on
at same time.

You need one license for each computer.

There is a pretty quick way to find HELP, it is on the
computer.

First of all, the rule is quite clear. It's one copy (or one
license) for each computer.

There's nothing new here. This is exactly the same rule that's
been in effect on every version of Windows starting with Windows
3.1. The only thing new with XP is that there's now an
enforcement mechanism.

But also note that you couldn't do what you want even if you
bought ten copies. Windows XP Home has a limit of five concurrent
connections. You need XP Professional to have ten.

Look up "volume license" on the Microsoft site. I believe the minimum they
offer is a 5 pack. This may be a more economical way to get XP on all 10
machines. As others have mentioned, you may want to look in to XP Pro since
XP Home is limited to 5 concurrent network connections. XP Pro is limited
to 10.
