Jim

Hi,
I am trying to set up a home network with 2 computers,
one running windows xp and the other running windows 98.
I have run the wizard and everything seemed fine, but I
can't see the windows xp machine on my windows 98 machine
and vise versa. I have enable sharing, gave them both
the same group name, disabled the windows firewall, and
enabled NETBIOS over TCP/IP. Also on the windows xp
machine, I can't access my workgroup computers, it tells
me that I don't have access permission, but I'm the
administrator. I'm at a loss as to what to try next, any
suggesstions?

Hi Jim,

Make sure each machine are on the same subnet mask. If
the subnet mask is different, the computer is effectively
located on a different network. Click Start, Run and
type "cmd" (without quotes) and press ENTER. Type
ipconfig or ipconfig/all. On the 98 machine, click Start,
Run, type "winipcfg". Make sure it is something like
255.255.255.0.

If the subnet mask is different, type ipconfig/release
then type ipconfig/renew if DHCP is present. Otherwise,
you'll need to configure the subnet mask manually.
