I'm having a problem setting up a wireless network
between my two laptops and my PC. I have a satellite
internet service, The guy a the store sold me a wireless
acess point, another told me to buy a broadband router, I
know have both neither works. I followed the set up Wizard
instructions set up a network bridge but then I lose by
satellite connection! Help what do I need to get this
hook up. What I'm I doing wrong Help!

Are you trying to share an internet connection, files or
both? I am assuming you are using Direcway for your
satellite internet. Direcway uses a modem that connects
to a usb port. The only way to share your internet
connection is to setup internet connection sharing.
There is no way to share the internet through the
router. If you are using WinXP on the other pc's they
will detect the shared connection. The computer with the
shared connection will assign IP addresses to the other
PC's so no other DHCP server can be used at the same
time. I hope this starts you in the right direction.

The 2 things that you gor should work together as well as
the network connection on each pc.
You have to connect the broadband router first to your ISP
provider which you need PPPOE to dial or Static IP, that
is the WAN port, then on the LAN port or ports you need
to assigned a Ip address like 192.168.0.xxx and subnet
mask of 255.255.255.0 and the gateway should be the
public ip already assigned by your ISP and then the
wireless router WAN port should have and static IP
assigned by you in th range of 192.168.0.xxx, same mask
and the GW should be the address assigned above and any
pc should be connected to the router not the broadband
modem it may seen complicated but is simple.
You only need an your ISP ADSL modem and a router, wired
or wireless and the wrkstn connected to the wireless.

I'd contact your satellite service provider. Their service
may not work with your routers. If they say they should,
then call a local professional.

Pat,

Ray is exactly right. Satellite modems must work with
the software loaded on your host PC. The Software loaded
for your Satellite modem has some sort of data
acceleration properties that I do not understand enough
to try and explain. I have found, however that the best
host to share this type of connection on is a Windows XP
machine. I have tried 98 and 2000 but the performance
between these two and XP is extreme. Just thought that
info might help.

Good Luck,
Jeff
