I have two pc's running XP Home edition, connected to a
router, then to my cable modem and out. Why is it so hard
to network these two computers? On one, I can see both
computers in the workgroup but I cannot connect to the
other pc. It says it is unaccessible, may not have rights
etc. On the other pc, it doesn't even show any computers
in the workgroup. Lordie, please can someone help? Please?

Greetings Bundy

Make sure the XP's firewall is disabled. It is only intended for direct connections t
the Internet and must be disabled on local area networks. If you have installe
any personal firewall, make sure it isn't blocking access between the computer
on the network. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP on all machines

Don't know if it will help in your case but for me, once I loaded Netbeui propotcol onto each PC, everything worked fine. before that i was having same issues you were except I have one Windows XP Home edition and one Windows ME.

Best of luck

It is okay to use NetBEUI but it is never required. All networking functions
are available using TCP/IP as the only protocol. If you wish it use it, then
install it on the other machines. NetBEUI is a unsupported protocol in
Windows XP and Microsoft won't give technical support with it.
