I CAN SEE ALL THE COMPUTERS ON MY NETWORK BUT SOME OF
THEM ARE LISTED UNDER UNSPECIFIED INSTEAD OF UNDER THE
NETWORK. WHAT DO I DO TO GET THEM BACK. I HAVE TWO
COMPUTERS ON WINDOWS XP AND THREE ON WINDOWS 98 UPDATE

I've seen "Unspecified", too. I'm sorry, but I don't know what causes
it.

However, it shouldn't be a problem. You can still click a computer or
a shared disk/folder and access it.

Similar but different.
On my dual boot (XPhome/Me) "My Network", all the shares on the dual boot pc
are listed as "Unknown" when icons are arranged as group by/computer name.
I can access all of them with no problem.
Same "My Network" on XPpro laptop lists all computer names as it should.
Perhaps this something associated with XPhome only ?

best to all

It's not that simple, yellowpike. I see "Unknown" on the XP Pro
computer that I'm using to send this message. I'm not sure what
causes it, but it could be because the computer that owns a shared
disk or folder isn't running when you open My Network Places on
another computer.

Aye Sir
That makes sense. In my case the "computer" that owns a shared disk or
folder that isn't "running" would be the drive with WinMe installed (dual
boot).
Why would I not see the same "Unknown" when My Network is viewed through
WinXPpro laptop ? Interesting ain't it ? (Food for thought)

Thank you and have a good weekend...
