I asked, and asked about the home pre. vista again before buying to be
sure it would network with all 7 other XP Pro computers I have in our office,
and it dosen't see the network. I run the network wizard and the only
reasonable option is for wireless, which I don't have. Anybody have any
experience with networking Visa to XP. What am I doing wrong. It sees the
internet fine on our network, but no other PC's. Please help! I have an
employee starting tomorrow and need his PC ready.

I have the same issue that Brian dose. I can see the router and the hub
but nothing past that. i can get to the internet. the fire wall to the visat
is off. When I first set up the work group it saw the intire network all the
computers started to drop off, now I can not see anything but the vista

Have you enable the NetBIOS over TCP/IP?

I had the same problem what you have to do is go the XP computer and search
Microsoft site for a download called LLTD Responder and then install it on
the XP computer. After the file is installed reboot the computer and then on
the Vista computer go to the network section create a new networkmap and then
you see the XP computer on the network.

I had the same problem, go to the XP computer and search Microsoft.com for
the download called "LLTD Responder" and install then reboot. After you
reboot go the Vista computer and create a new network map and you will see
the XP computers on the network.

Good job w/ the LLTD Responder. I was frustrated as hell that my new toy
couldn't play with the other on the network. Thanx for the fix Scarson !!!!

You are welcomed now maybe you can help me. I have file and print sharing
enabled on both computers and I have a printer connected to the Vista
computer and it is shared but I can not connect the it to XP computer which
is wireless. On the XP computer in network places I can see both computers
and on the Vista computer using the network map I see both but I can not
access any shares on the Vista system when I am on the XP system. Please I
need help ASAP.

LLTD worked for getting my XP machines on the map, but I can still not
access them, I have tried to ping them and that doesn't work. Anyone have
any ideas? I have a printer on an XP Home machine which I would like to use.
It seems everytime I upgrade to a new operating system my printers aren't
compatible anymore, last time I lost a HP scanner, this time I am losing a
Lexmark all in one.. Sheesh..

I know I am having the same problem and I am begging for help. Does any body
have any Ideas?

If using net use \\remotepc ip, what's the system error? If it is system error 5, this could be the permission issue. Have you create the same username on all computers? This troubleshooting may help,

Step by step troubleshooting ...Create the same username and passowrd on all shared computers. 8. You may try to disable Password protection sharing. 9. If you run Network Map on a Vista, ...

I did this and now my XP PC shows up on the Network Map....but I still can't
network the 2....I really don't care if it shows up on a map or not if I
can't access the files on the XP PC...

I have all firewalls disabled, file sharing turned on and I cannot share my
XP PC's files w/ the Vista box...

what gives?

Check the NetBT setting, and ALL security components and make sure that SMBs
aren't being blocked.

Then look at logs from "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from each
computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and
follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):
