networking xp to 2000pro

I have disabled the firewall on the xp machine. I can ping
the xp from the 2000prof, but it cannot find the xp
using "computers near me." The xp can find the 2000.
Please post as many suggestions as possible - I have been
at this for the last 14 hrs. Thanks!!

During those 14 hours, did you check some of the existing
posts on the same subject in this newsgroup? The most
recent was posted 8 hours ago.
 
Make sure file and print sharing is enabled on the XP computer and that the server
service is running. It may also help to try booting into safe mode with networking to
see if it works and if it does you have an issue with a startup program/service that
you can troubleshoot with selective startup using msconfig. Also try a unc connection
in the run box using first computer name and then IP address if computer name does
not work as in \\xpcomputername or \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx as shown via ipconfig /all on
the XP box. --- Steve
