I am connecting to the Internet through DHCP (Comcast cable modem). I have two
machines running Windows XP and another Win 2K laptop go through a Linksys
router.

I have all the machines on the same workgroup, firewall on XP is off and
computer names are unique but they just can't see each other. Doing a
\\computername doesn't render anything. They just can't see each other. Very
frustrating.

I've been reading on the Web and it seems like others have similiar issues but
they have static IPs instead of DHCP.

Can someone suggest anything for me?

I have been researching the same issue. I just stumbled
across an article (#308007) which states at the very
bottom "NOTE: All network access to a Windows XP Home
Edition computer, or to a windows XP Pro computer in a
workgroup uses the Guest account. Before you continue
troubleshooting, make sure that the Guest account is set
up for network access. To do this:
a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
b. Type the following command and then press ENTER:

net user guest

c. If the account is active, a line appears in the output
of the command similar to the following:

Account active Yes

d. If the account is not active, use the following
command to give the Guest account network access:

net user guest/active:yes

e. Note that the following test returns after the command:

The command completed successfully.

If you see any other response, make sure that you are
logged on as Administrator, and then confirm that you
typed the command properly before you try again.
