Networking XP machine's

At our place of business we have five laptops running XP
pro and are usually connected to the server running Win
2k.

However there are times when we're out of the office and
need to network the laptops together through a hub.

Can anyone instruct me on what I need to do to set up
this 'mini-network' and at the same time not messing up
the settings for the network when the laptops are in the
office.

Any assisstance will be appreciated.

you have many options. 1. use static ip. 2. use netsh to switch the tcp/ip

The answer depends on how the network is set up at your place of
business:

1. Is it a domain or a workgroup?

2. What protocol does it use for File and Printer Sharing?

3. If it uses TCP/IP, how are the IP addresses assigned?

With that information, someone should be able to give you a good
answer.

I have a similar need for office laptops that authenticate to a Win2k domain
controller at the office, and then 2 or more of the laptops go with the
employees to a client site. At the client site, we want to create a hub
based network and share files between the laptops. All laptops are running
XP SP1.
To answer Steve's questions:
1. Is it a domain or a workgroup?
it is a domain at the office, but it is not a workgroup at the client site
as all the laptops are configured for a domain.

2. What protocol does it use for File and Printer Sharing?
TCP/IP

3. If it uses TCP/IP, how are the IP addresses assigned?
the addresses are static assigned in the 192.168.0 network
