I was sharing files and printers between my Win 98 PC and
my Win XP home PC. Everything worked fine. Then we
upgraded the Win98 to win XP Pro, and I haven't been able
to get it to work. The XP Home PC can 'see' the XP Pro
machine, but it can't access it. The XP Pro can't see
anything but itself. I get a message saying 'Workgroup is
inaccessible - you might not have permission to use this
resource.' What I want to do is either:
- get it to work
or
- remove the workgroup from both computers.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Becky

I had a similar problem with an XP Home and an XP Pro on
a network. Both pc's could access the cable modem
installed on the XP Pro pc, but could not see each other.
I installed the NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios protocol on both
pc's under the TCP/IP tab and everything worked okay. I
still don't understand the need to do that, but it may
solve your problem......

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
