Networking XP Home Laptop As Workstation

Does any techies have some experience of networking a new
Compaq Presario 2500 laptop loaded with XP Home Edition
with a company network. I have no problem getting onto
our company's newtwork with a laptop loaded with XP
professional. I am only interested in transferring files
on and off of our engineering network drive and be set up
as a workstation
