I have a laptop using XP and a desktop using ME. I have
managed to set up a direct cable network and it seems
there is no problem with the computers communicating.
They can ping each otehr successfully and I have used
NetMeeting between the two using the IP addresses.
However, I can't share files or aceess the desktop
printer. When trying to add a network place, neither
machine seems able to recognise each other.

Could it be to do with the Network bridge? The Knowledge
Base is telling me to delete the network bridge, but when
I follow these instructions, Network Briodge does not
appear in My Network Places or Network Connections.

Thanks for any help because I need to get my life back!

can you ping each other by name? if not, enable netbios over tcp/ip on xp.
