....all peer-to-peer networking for XP is handled thru the
GUEST account - make sure guest accounts on both machines
are turned on. [recommend no passwords]
Windows doesn't like multiple computers [IP's] exposed to
the internet but it will work anyway. Your router should
be using NAT'ed [network address translation] security so
it should be O.K.

can you clarify this about "gues accounts"?

My windows xp networks just fine (3 systems, sonic telewal router, cable
modem).
I just got a laptop with windows xp professional and I can get the wireless
to work but when I shut down and come back later it's not grabbing an ip
address (even though it's set under tcp/ip protocol) under status the ip
address part is blank.
is windows xp professional different ? what am I missing? maybe it's an
outdated adapter (old linksys usb- I'm expecting a newer adapter tomorrow)

I have 2 computers both with Win XP. They are both hooked
up to a lynksys router, then that goes to a DSL modem. When
I use the wizard to try and get them networked- first when
I choose the confg. I just described it says it does not
recomend this way then it never works. Please help, I need
a step by step. Thanks, Mike
.
