I have two XP Home machines connected via a crossover cable. Someone said I need to create user accounts and passwords that matches the other machine. How do I accomplish this task?

Someone was describing XP Professional, not XP Home, Sam. If you
disable "simple file sharing" on XP Professional, it checks user
accounts and passwords for network access.

XP Home can't disable "simple file sharing", and it lets everyone
access network shares, without checking user accounts or passwords.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on both computers to fully enable file
sharing:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard

If you want to create user accounts, go to Control Panel | User
Accounts.
