I am having trouble getting a single Win2000 machine to
link up to all of the rest of the computers on our
network that use XP. Can't use a startup disk as it says
that only works with win98, me, and NT 4.0. What do I do?

Leo, I'm having the exact same problem... I have 4 computers on my home network. Two are running Windows 2000 Professional and the other two XP Home Edition. Sometimes they all show up in my created workgroup with the abilities to share printers and files.. The next day all functionality is gone and each group only sees the ones of the same OS as being present on the network. I'm baffled...let me know if you get a solution

don't know about the first poster, but the problem the
second poster is experiencing is due to the fact that
he's using XP HOME. HOME "sucks". Use XP PRO and it
will work fine.

I am having a similar situation. I receive a "Network
Path was not found" message when I attempt to connect the
two computers. Can someone please post a response?

Darryl, you should probably post a new message rather than "tagging" on to
someone else's problem. You will get a faster response.

BTW, it doesn't sound like the "exact same problem," since your network is
already setup and previously working, while the OP's problem sounds like his
network is not even setup yet.

Please provide more details about your tcp/ip settings and share permissions
in your new post. From what you have provided, it could be numerous
possible causes. Read some of the other posts to see what kind of details
are generally helpful in troubleshooting.

Not sure what you are trying to do with a startup disk. It won't help you
with networking. Go into the help menu on the 2000 machine and lookup "peer
to peer networking." That should get you started in the right direction.

Go to your Local Security Settings (Administrative Tools), Local Policies,
Security Options, Network Access: Sharing and security model for local
accounts and switch to Classic Mode.

Now you just have to make sure you are using a common set of Usernames and
Passwords. This is the way I network all my P2P setups. If you can ping the
machines (i.e., the network layer is ok), then this should get you going.
