I have a home network using XP Home as my main computer. I am trying to
configure a Windows 2000 Professional computer to access the internet
wirelessly from my XP Home computer.

I have enabled ICS in my XP Home computer and my Windows 2000 computer shows
it connection, but the LAN activity has packets sent and nothing received.

My taskbar on my Windows 2000 shows as though I am connected, but no web
pages pull up.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

A good starting point would be to explain how your WinXP
PC connects to the Internet. You should also do this on
each PC:
- Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}
- Type these commands:
echo %Computername% > c:\test.txt {Enter}
ipconfig /all >> c:\test.txt {Enter}
notepad c:\test.txt {Enter}
- Paste the contents of these files into your reply.

My main computer hooks up to an ethernet port which goes to my Linksys WRT54G
router.

You appear to have sent me the twice the information for
your main PC and nothing at all for the second PC.
I cannot draw any conclusions based on your data.

I also wonder why you would want to share your
Internet connection via your main PC. A far better
way would be to plug both PCs into your router so
that they can access the Internet independently. If
your router has only a single output, get a small switch.
Your computer dealer might have a second-hand
10 MBits/s switch for next to nothing.

The reason for sharing from my main PC is to get the Windows 2000 computer
to access it wirelessly.

The usual method is to plug the wireless access point
into the router. In this way, all devices, wireless or
wired, have access to the Internet.
