Dumb question, but can I network a computer with Windows
XP Professional with a computer with Windows Millenium?
If so, can you give me a step by step procedure?

Joseph,

yes, you can. You need an Ethernet adapter in each computer, if
they don't have one already, and either a special crossover
cable or, better and suitable for more than two computers, a
switch and one normal Ethernet patch cable for each computer.
Even better is a router with a built-in switch (like the SMC
7004 VBR or a similar WAN router), because that can connect you
to a broadband Internet link as well.

Connect the computers, log on to the ME computer with the same
name and password that you use on the XP computer, share some
folders and access them from the other computer.

So here's the situation. I have a Windows ME and Windows
XP Professional machine connected to a router, and they
are both connected to the Internet with no problem. I
used the Network Wizard on with the Windows XP machine
first, and it instructed me to use the Windows XP disk to
set up the Windows ME machine. I can find the Windows ME
machine on the network FROM THE WINDOWS ME machine ONLY
using My Network Places. The problems are:

- I can not find the Windows ME machine on the Windows XP
machine.

- I can not find the Windows XP machine on the network,
using EITHER computer.

Note that BOTH computers are logged in using the same
user name, and both have the same workgroup name.

I am assuming I have some additional steps to do, or
there is some kind of permissions issues. Please help!
