I have a Mac G5 that needs to be on my home network. I
also run a laptop with Win 2000. What do I need to do to
allow file sharing and networking between the laptop and
the G5?

Read about SAMBA which I believe is included with OS X.

It's my understanding that os x comes with samba. So you don't have to do anything. Maybe read up on how to configure samba. If you want to use appletalk, install that and use the server wizard to setup your windows shares, or you can use NFS. Just go pickup a copy of windows services for unix (free just pay for shipping), and setup NFS
