Networking with a Switch and a Router?

I have a router hub which has some computer and I connected a 4 port hub to
it. Is it possible that workstations connected to the 4 port hub would not
be able to see other workstations directly connected to the main routher
hub. Workstations connected to the Router can see the workstations on the
hub. Should this work both ways?

Yes, it should work BOTH ways. Just make sure your router isn't
interpreting your connected hub as *intruders*!

I don't know how you've configured things, so I can only speculate. Suppose
those on the hub are using static IPs, in a different subnet from those
using the router. Those on the router are presumably getting their IP
assignments dynamically, and from a different subnet too, thanks to the
router's DHCP server. In that case, ALL the traffic eminating *from* the
hub *to* the router is, for all intents and purposes, the equivalent of
Internet traffic, and subject to the rules of the firewall (intruders!).
Since most firewalls allow anything OUT of the LAN to the WAN, but drop
anything from the WAN to the LAN unless specifically allowed through the
application of filters and port openings, noone on the hub can get into the
router!

Again, I'm just speculating here based on very little info, but this seems
like one possibility.
