I've three computers conneted to a Linksys Router (using DHCP) and have been
sharing certain folders and a printer for quite a while. Now however the ME
and 98 computers still work as expected but they cannot see the XP machine
nor be seen by it (through the MS Windows Network). I don't connect to the
older computers a lot and the only thing I can think of that has changed
since the last time I tried to connect to them is that I installed the MS
security patch about a month ago.

They all can ping each other, they all can surf the net and the personal
fire wall is turned off on the XP machine (I tried turned it on and off
again just to see if that reset anything).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All I can offer is that XP if set up as NTFS, you will encounter
problems when a FAT/FAT32 system is trying to read each other. Simple
case of Apples and Oranges - no can do

No, that's not right. The file system is completely irrelevant in
networking. Each computer reads its own disk and sends the contents
to the other computers in a form that's independent of the file
system.

Trukk,

please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.

What exactly do you mean by "cannot see" or "be seen"? What
happens if you try to access the other computer?

It was the "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP"! Turned it on, gave it a few
minutes and it works fine.

Thanks!

Trukk,

you're welcome. Glad I could help. Thanks for reporting
