I have just purchased 8 new HP workstation xw4100 all have
Win XP as the operating system, non will enable users to
access all the files and folders that they had access to
previously.
They are currently using Win 98 and can access all area's
without any problems.
'Entire Network' will not show in the explorer window and
it has proved impossible to Map any Network Drives, keep
getting a warning box saying that the drives are not
available.
I have reset user on the client and have also created new
user accounts on our NT4 server but still they can not
access the same area's as they have on there Win 98 client
machines.
I have been in touch with our suppliers support centre and
they have no idea why this should be, they keep saying
that they have not heard of this problem before, I have
also been using Microsoft XP manual which has not helped
much iether, please can you help

xp and win9x are different and it sounds like name resolution issue. Do you
have domain or workgroup? If you have domain, setup WINS; if you have
workgroup, enable netbios over tcp/ip on xp.

if you get the prompt for a password, netbios is not issue here. what do you
get if using net view \\xpname from win98? if it is error 5, this permission
issue; if it is error 53, this is name resolution issue.
