Having trouble establishing any file or printer sharing
between the computers, one with XP home and the other with
2000. Neither one recognizes the other when I search for
computers but both share an internet connection thru my
hub with no problem. What am I missing??

If you get to the 'net via a simple hub or switch instead of a
router, it means that your ISP is assigning two IPAs to your
two PCs, and they may not be in the same IP subnet. If that is
the case, you will have problems communicating, and I suggest
that you replace that hub with a router using NAT and DHCP to
get your PCs in the same IP subnet.

To check, run CMD and type IPCONFIG/ALL in the CMD window on
both PCs. For IPA=a.b.c.d, if both PCs have the same a.b.c
but different d's and both have subnet masks of 255.255.255.0,
then they are in the same subnet.

If your PCs do get to the 'net via a router, then my first guess
would be firewall software; disable ICF forever on the XP PC and
temporarily remove all firewall and antivirus apps. Next, make
sure both PCs use TCP/IP (and no other network protocols) and that
NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled. Check that F&P Sharing is enabled
on both, and that some folder with a short simple folder name is
shared with a short simple share name. Check that ClientForM$nets
is enabled on both.
